How Do You Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.?

 

Can you believe how quickly Christmas came and went? I am savoring these last few days of my vacation before the glorious madness of being a first grade teacher begins again!

I was trying to get some lessons together for the upcoming weeks in January, and along the way I created this little Martin Luther King Jr. number. I love teaching my students all about MLK throughout January and February!

This packet includes a sweet craft I made to celebrate the life of MLK. Students brainstorm a dream they have to make the world a better place.

These are the templates for the boy and girl craft. I know my kids are going to eat this up!

In addition to creating the craft, my students will be writing their very first biographies! They will first “conduct research” and organize it on a graphic organizer. Then, they will make their own MLK biography book using these pages provided for them.

One of my favorite MLK books is “Martin’s Big Words.” After reading and discussing the book, we will complete the activity below where students receive a “big word” and have to draw the word and write it in a sentence. We’ll also be completing *lots* of other correlating activities. All of the activities below could be used during Language Arts or Social Studies.
