Fluency Checklist (for students)

Here’s the poster I display at my fluency center in my classroom:

At the station, students can:

choose a story that is “just right” for them

practice reading their story

record themselves reading

listen back and self-evaluate using the self-evaluation sheet you see below

It is a great way for students to become self-learners. I also allow them to peer-evaluate sometimes. I especially love this station because they are able to recognize their accomplishments and areas that need work, without needing to hear it from a teacher.

  2. This is a great idea! I don't have a "student/self assessment" for fluency. I assess them, but they don't ever get the chance to assess themselves like this. I love that! Do you just use mini recorders?

    Then, I saw that you teach in Baltimore! I am currently student teaching in Howard County so both the name and the closeness of schools really excited me.

  11. Thanks for the super smiley face chart. It was just what I needed.

    @Kimberley, this may be too late, but audioboo.com is a super simple website that the kids can use to record themselves. If you have any kind of iOS device you could also just use the voice recorder.
